During the month of July, we had some very worthy events to note.
Beginning with the Installation of Officers for the Quantico Assembly of the International Order of Rainbow Girls on Saturday the 11th followed by a picnic style meal that was served on the lawn of the lodge. I extended a very sincere congratulations to M’Balu Kourouma on behalf of the Lodge for her taking the reins as Worthy Advisor.
The monthly Stated Communications was held with a minimum of fanfare due to concerns over the COVID-19 virus. Per guidance from the Grand Master, we did not have a guest speaker but all Lodge functions and gatherings are at this point are cleared to resume as normal except for meals and the taking of the word. We had one petition to vote on and followed guidance from Grand Lodge with the use of gloves for obvious safety precautions.
RW Rex Rockhill, Brother Leo Powell and myself participated in a Masonic funeral for Brother Robert Lee Dionne of Arizona who passed away on May 22nd. Brother Dionne was originally raised at AW-22 in 1971, he had served in the Army and later was a U.S. Capitol police officer for 16 years. He resigned from the Capitol Police and later travelled extensively throughout the country, eventually visiting all 48 states in the continental United States and settling in Arizona.
The funeral service and Celebration of Life for Right Worshipful Brother James Albert Newcomer Jr. was held on Sunday the 26th with his interment at Quantico National Cemetery the next day. I cannot emphasize enough what a mainstay he was in the lodge. A Mason, a mentor to many a “young” Blue Lodge Mason as well as many Scottish Rite Mason’s and a Marine. He will be missed.
Also, as previously stated in past month’s Trestleboard, Brother Earl Covey, one of our very senior honored members, has been moved to the Veterans Home in Washington, D.C. and not doing well. His health has deteriorated to the point that he longer recognizes anyone close to him. I ask that all of us please continue to keep him in our prayers.
Administrative notes and parting shots:
For the Stated Communication this month; we will have Polo Shirt night, but there will be no meal served. Until the Grand Lodge gives the green light on dinner in the lodges, it is suggested that all brethren eat prior to arrival.
In the meantime, for those of us that are tasked with speaking roles in the lodge, I once again urge you to practice your parts, to include your obligation, as often as you are able as all things can become “rusty” if not used from time to time. Follow the old military habit of knowing the job of the person at least two levels above you to improve your proficiency.
The lodge will have a weekly webex meeting on Fridays at 8:00 p.m. If you do not have webex you can download it free. The sign on is 293449305. It will be monitored by Brother Kahlil Deberry the Senior Warden.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Randall Arnold, Worshipful Master
